Whether you should take Accutane for acne should be decided by talking to your doctor or dermatologist.

For some people acne is very difficult to treat and at times a doctor will prescribe Accutane. Accutane is a very strong medication that can help with the emotional and physical scarring of severe acne. It is used to treat severe acne that cannot be cleared up with other medications. However, use of this acne medication can have severe side effects. You usually need to take it for about 3 to 6 months.

It is a last resort type of medication when all else has failed.

Perhaps undergoing this medication is good for men, because it has terrible side effects to women especially when pregnant. Because of its powerful drug it may cause defects on the child if undergone through this process during pregnancy. That is why, the doctor recommends to have further physical checkup for women before taking this medication to confirm if the patient is pregnant or not.

no one taking accutane/sotret should try having kids in the treatment period. and of course, no one should take it without a doctor prescribing it.

I just read an article where the acne drug isotretinoin (aka Accutane) may lead to bowel disease in some users. A new study finds that patients on the medication were four times more likely than non-users to develop ulcerative colitis within a year.

Don't think the generic brands of this drug are required to tell you about this possible side effect - so be aware of this!
